Arthroscopy

Arthroscopy is a surgical technique consists of a procedure on the joint using miniature instruments and the monitoring control of an endoscope linked to a video camera, inserted by means of small incisions of a few millimetres.

By its avoidance of extensive incisions and reduced lesions in the tissues peripheral to the joint, this technique enables us to achieve a more rapid recovery and less pain in comparison with conventional surgery, as well as fewer aesthetic after effects.

However, not all operations can be realised using this technique.

It is a real surgical procedure and therefore not exempt from the risks encountered with conventional surgery.

Infection is rare but always possible, lesions may occur at the nerves or tendons and functional improvement is not always complete.

The risks and advantages involved in this type of technique vary of course depending on the joint in question and the individual problem.

Personally, I use this technique for the wrist and the base of the thumb, the elbow and the shoulder.
